Aug. 28 Mason Weekly Update

Good Evening Mason Families,

I hope you are all enjoying the summer weekend. We will be sharing TPS Updates and adding some Mason Updates in Sunday emails again this year. Our 6th graders rocked the JumpStart this past week and we are excited to welcome our 7th and 8th graders back soon.

Our TPS Sunday Updates

First day of school

As the first day of school approaches, I wanted to share some important details to help you and your child feel ready.

Our first day is Thursday, Sept. 8. School starts at 8:15AM and doors open at 8:07AM. Breakfast is served every morning in the cafeteria starting at 7:45AM.

Student Schedules to start school- All students will report to their Advisory classes in the morning. Student schedules will be distributed in Advisory. 6th graders and any student who does not know their Advisory teacher should report to the cafeteria to confirm their assignment on the first day of school. Students can also log in to Schoology during the week of Sept.8th and confirm their Advisory teachers.

Sept.8/9 – we will spend additional time in our morning Advisory classes. The intent is to slow down the pace on our first two days to reconnect and welcome each other back, clarify protocols and routines, and to give students a space to ask questions.

All schools begin one hour later on Wednesday mornings except when noted otherwise on our school online calendar. Calendar - Mason Middle School (

Soon, all students will be able to ride public transit in the South Sound free of charge. We'll share more details on that soon.

Charge TPS laptops
Please ensure your child's school-issued laptop is updated, charged and ready to bring on the first day of school. Computers should automatically run updates when turned on at home, prior to the start of school.

If your child stored their laptop at school over the summer, we’ll provide it to them at school.

If your child is new to Tacoma Public Schools, they will get a laptop at school.

Breakfast and lunch are available at no cost to all students this school year. Bookmark our school's menus online.
